The Barbie Issue!
On March 9, 1959, thanks to the vision and determination of Ruth Handler, Barbie debuted at the New York Toy Fair. Kinky, by Denise Duhamel, a celebration of Barbie and so much more, was published on March 1, 1997. To celebrate Barbie’s 63rd birthday and Kinky’s 25th anniversary, Dustin Brookshire and Denise Duhamel are teaming up to co-edit a special issue of Limp Wrist dedicated to Barbie.
The editors are looking for poems inspired by or dedicated to Barbie. Poems don’t have to be “fully Barbie”—they invite work with Barbie cameos. They want to read poems that include a well-placed Barbie appearance that strengthen or amplify what the poet is accomplishing in the poem.
The submission period for the Limp Wrist Barbie issue closes at midnight (EST) on Friday, December 31, 2021. The Barbie issue will be published in March 2022.
Please be sure to follow Limp Wrist's submission guidelines that are outlined on the Join the Agenda page and include "Barbie" in the subject line of the email.
